What is the expedition? – Imagine taking cellular communication opportunities and the benefits of the Internet to unconnected villages and remote places. During the Connecting Brazil Expedition, Nokia Siemens Networks will prove this mission is possible.

This encompassing connection is made possible by the Village Connection system. Innovative and affordable, the system is traveling from place to place in a car through the state of Bahia, taking telephony and Internet access to populations that are practically isolated from other cities, like Muniz Ferreira and Cravolândia

In these cities, people are making calls, sending text messages, accessing the Internet, and experiencing digital inclusion possibilities; a benefit for schools, the public administration, and for the families.

In addition to technology and digital inclusion, Village Connection is a tool capable of promoting social entrepreneurialship, in a dynamic that involves local micro-entrepreneurs, since they can offer telephony and Internet access to their own community, independently of big companies.

The Connecting Brazil Expedition also puts in practice Nokia Siemens Networks Corporate and Social Responsibility, since it provides needy populations with the benefits of progress.

Through this experience, Nokia Siemens Networks has shown how communication services can make people’s lives more comfortable, easier, and even safer.

And this entire adventure through Brazil’s countryside can be followed on the Expedition’s blog (www.conectandobrasil.com.br), which has a daily journal in which Nokia Siemens Networks professionals, who are on the field, tell their discoveries in places yet to be explored by technology.

The Connecting Brazil Expedition is a partnership between Nokia Siemens Networks and the companies Oi, Nokia, Intelsat and Hughes.

Welcome to our expedition!
